WWOOF is a direct exchange. Members and hosts should discuss dates, work, free food, accommodation, health needs, and travel details before confirming a stay.
What is WWOOF?
WWOOF enables members to stay and volunteer on organic properties. Members usually help for 4-6 hours a day. Sunday is off. Hosts provide free food, accommodation, practical learning, and cultural exchange.
How do I start?
Choose the country where you want to volunteer, join that country's WWOOF organization, preview suitable hosts, and contact hosts directly to agree dates and expectations.
What kind of visa do I need?
Visa requirements differ by country. Volunteers must research and arrange the correct visa themselves; WWOOF organizations and hosts do not normally arrange visas or placements.
How old must I be?
WWOOF India members must be at least 18 years old. Age policies can differ in other national WWOOF organizations.
How much does WWOOFing cost?
Budget for membership, all travel, accommodation between farms, insurance, medicines, phone or internet access, suitable clothing, and personal activities. WWOOF India membership is US $40 for a single person (approx ₹3,820) and US $60 for couples/partners (approx ₹5,730). Free food and accommodation during an agreed host stay are part of the exchange.
How long can I stay on a farm?
The member and host decide together. A stay may range from a few days to several months, and some hosts prefer an initial trial period before confirming a longer visit.
Can I travel with children?
Some farms welcome families and others cannot. Contact suitable family-run hosts before travelling and agree accommodation, supervision, work, and safety expectations clearly.
Is there a global WWOOF membership?
No. WWOOF is organized nationally, so you must join the organization in each country where you want to volunteer.
What security checks are done?
Processes vary between national organizations. Always take normal precautions when visiting someone new, confirm the host identity and expectations, and report serious concerns to the relevant WWOOF organization.
Can I search for a particular farming skill?
Host availability depends on place and season. Choose a country first, then search host profiles for crops, livestock, permaculture, food processing, natural building, or other relevant activities.
Am I too old to WWOOF?
There is no upper age limit if you are fit enough for the agreed daily activities. Tell hosts about physical limitations before confirming a stay.
Do I need insurance?
Travel and medical insurance are strongly recommended. Choose cover appropriate for illness, injury, theft, cancellations, and the activities you plan to undertake.
